This isn't just yoga.
IT'S A NEW
YOGA MOVEMENT
Who Am I?
Adventurer, yoga teacher and trainer, entrepreneur & music obsessed travel junkie.
Made in Brighton, currently residing back in London after four years on the road.
Julia Louise Barber
Founder & Creator. Coach & Mentor.
I started practising yoga at 19. Yes, over two decades ago. I was at university, studying and playing hard, swimming and rowing competitively, skydiving in my vacation time and generally behaving as though it was my last day on earth. I was not what you might call the likeliest of yogis.
Over the years, I started to engage with yoga as the best way to connect my heart and soul, calm the crazy mind as well as work with the physical body. After burning out of a successful corporate career, I sold out of my business and went to Bali where yoga helped me fix stress, fatigue and excruciating lower back pain. I returned to London and completed my first 200hr YTT at Yoganesh in East London in 2012.
Since then I have taught private 1-on-1 and group corporate classes in London and over 500 hours of studio classes while managing Grounded Yoga & Wellbeing on Koh Tao in Thailand. I completed an additional 200hr YTT with the amazing Les Leventhal, taught a full Anatomy & Philosophy theory syllabus for the Mahi Yoga 200hr YTT in 2016 and most recently spent six months as a senior teacher at Yoga 4 All Mankind in Berlin.
While my signature classes are dynamic and energising, I specialise in therapeutic yoga for stress and adrenal fatigue and have trained with Leah Barnett and Fiona Agombar, leading experts in this field. I’m an anatomy geek and a philosophy nerd and love to focus on the guiding principles of the yamas and niyamas as they relate to present everyday life.
Lastly, I am the founder of Yoginomics, a business community for teachers combining heart and soul with commercial purpose. I now travel, teach and mentor across the globe. My friends say I am a follower of dreams as well as a business brain and I am excited to collaborate with, coach and mentor the next generation of amazing and talented yogis and teachers alike.
Work With Me
I work on a wide variety of projects, including my own yoga event schedule, coaching and training for yoga teachers and consultancy for studio owners and managers.
For Adventure Seeking and Desk Dwelling Yogis
I am currently based in London teaching pop-up classes and workshops, marketing retreats and trainings and working with private individuals. I also offer yoga and corporate wellness programmes to businesses. Let me bring yoga to your office and your awesome team.
For Trainee and Newly Qualified Yoga Teachers
Yoginomics is a business community designed to help new yoga teachers turn their passion into a profession. Visit us there to get access to free resources and our signature training course. I also work 1-on-1 with a limited number of teachers every year.
For Yoga Studio Managers and Business Owners
Having turned around a struggling studio in Asia for a year I appreciate the complex workload involved in the day to day running of this kind of yoga business. From hiring and operations to sales and marketing, let's talk about how I can add value to your studio.
In 2017, I have a limited number of spaces remaining for private clients and studio projects. Or perhaps you want guidance on a specific goal or dream in which case we can discuss designing a programme that works specifically for you.
Events
I'm lucky enough to be involved in a lot of amazing stuff. Here are a couple of things currently in the works, but for the full run down, from training to retreats, please do get in touch...

Projects
"I meditated, I trekked up the volcano, I went to see the Water Priestess
- why am I still stressed?" - Les Leventhal
"There seemed to be too much of everything: arguments, explosive feelings,
weird dreams, and intrusive thoughts." - Sally Kempton
"You're only as small, or as big, as your thoughts. So make them spacious and expansive." - Julia
Yoginomics
A business community for yoga teachers
Yoginomics is my passion project, my brainchild, the thing I wish I'd had when I was training as a yoga obsessive and travel junkie turned entrepreneur. Yoginomics helps newly qualified, trainee, and lapsed yoga teachers get to grips with business fundamentals and accelerate their yoga teaching careers. Via online training, resources and retreats, Yoginomics helps teachers make their passion their profession.
Grounded Yoga & Wellbeing
Koh Tao's hidden gem for yoga, wellness and good energy
With a team, I took over and healed this little known yoga studio on Koh Tao for 10 months. It's a stunning little jungle hideaway, with a beautiful jungle view and dedicated and passionate teachers. Classes are open to all levels and consistently foster engagement with both the self and with the beauty of the tropical outdoors.
Yoga on the Roof @ Blue Water
Welcome the end of the day with open arms
In 2016 we opened the doors to Blue Water's rooftop space to the public. We wanted our guests to have the chance to embrace the sunset either before or after sampling some of the delicious treats on the menu of this renowned Koh Tao beach front bistro. Classes are held three times weekly, advanced booking is recommended.
Yoga Goes Pop!
An outdoor summer yoga adventure
In the summer of 2015, I launched a series of outdoor classes in the park in Bethnal Green in order to raise funds for the Hackney Yoga Project, now named OurMala. With a selection of East London's finest teachers, we managed to raise enough funds to provide several hundred refugee women with lunch and yoga. Our support of OurMala is ongoing.
Yoga 4 All Mankind, Berlin
One of Berlin's leading yoga studios
I was lucky enough to spend six months with the Yoga For All Mankind family in Berlin, teaching morning and afterwork flow classes and the signature Yoga Basics series, as well as private and corporate classes across the city. I also helped relaunch the website and design a new workshop programme,
